Overview

Kopi 434 - Kajang Branch is a distinctive cafe nestled in the heart of Bandar Kajang, Selangor, known for marrying strong local coffee traditions with authentic Muar-inspired dishes. Located at B-0-9, Mkh Avenue on Jalan Jelok 1, this outlet brings the iconic Kopi 434 experience closer to coffee lovers in Kajang.

The space itself strikes a balance between modern comfort and cultural touchstones. The cozy interior, punctuated by unique murals and solid timber furniture, creates a warm ambiance that encourages relaxed dining. Air conditioning is robust, ensuring a cool atmosphere—though some might find it noticeably brisk during quieter mornings. The setting suits a variety of patrons: from those seeking a quiet spot to savor a carefully brewed cup, to casual diners exploring classic Malaysian fare.

At the heart of Kopi 434’s appeal is its coffee. The namesake blends, including the bold Black Coffee 434 and the aromatic Kopi C, deliver deep, robust flavors that satisfy aficionados who appreciate a pronounced, slightly bitter coffee profile. Their signature iced coffee strikes a pleasing balance—neither overpowering nor too sweet—showcasing mastery in roasting and brewing techniques. For those interested in bringing home a piece of the experience, the cafe offers coffee merchandise and packaged goods famed for their rich heritage.

Complementing the coffee are the culinary highlights, heavily inspired by Muar’s vibrant street food culture. The Nasi Lemak Otak Otak Muar stands out with its fragrant rice and delicately spiced otak-otak wrapped in daun nipah, imparting a subtle smokiness. Similarly, the Mee Bandung 434 captures the essence of Muar’s spicy noodle soups, delivering a lively, flavorful broth with a kick of heat. Patrons have noted occasional variations in noodle texture but generally praise the dish’s authenticity and intensity.

Traditional snacks like Mee Siput and Fried Durian Balls offer interesting tastes and textures—crispy, savory, and uniquely Malaysian. The Half Boiled Eggs, adored by many for their perfectly soft whites and runny yolks, add a homely touch to the menu. Toast lovers will appreciate the Kaya Toast with its rich, darker-hued spread and quality butter, even if some wish for thicker slices to enhance the overall bite.

Service at Kopi 434 is attentive and efficient, ensuring a smooth dining experience. The option to purchase takeaway hot items like otak-otak and coffee makes it convenient for customers wanting to enjoy these flavors beyond the cafe. While the early closing hours may limit late-evening visits, the cafe thrives as a spot for breakfast, tea time, or lunch.

In summary, Kopi 434 - Kajang Branch is ideal for those who cherish traditional Malaysian coffee culture paired with hearty, flavorful local dishes. It's a destination that respects its Muar roots while catering to Kajang’s community. Whether you're a coffee purist or a food enthusiast eager to try authentic otak-otak and Mee Bandung, this cafe offers a compelling, sensory-rich experience in a welcoming setting.

Stopped by for tea time. The atmosphere and the service is good. They sell merchandise and their own products too. The coffee is very kaw. So if you like strong coffee, this is the place. The food is not bad but some are served in paper baskets…Will definitely come again to try their main courses.

You should come here if you like coffee. The local varieties that they have are brilliant! The selection of toast bread are great too. They have their own kaya. It's darker in colour but taste great. They have what appears to me the best soft boiled eggs. The whites are cooked but very soft while the yolk is soft but very runny. Nasi lemak is ok. Mee Bandung Muar I like. There's cakoi and otak-otak. The usual roast in coconut leaf, inside steamed bun or just plain steam otak2 with chunky fish meat. No strong orange colouring and less sweet. I love the elephant bean coffee where they gather the beans from elephant's shit. LOL just kidding. I'm the first to come after waiting by the entrance after sending my daughter to the Kajang court. But it was very cold in the morning as the a/c were at full blast

Cozy place with a pleasant ambience, not too noisy, making it perfect for a relaxed meal. The air-conditioning is cold, and the mural adds a nice character to the space. The servers were attentive, and food was served quickly. We ordered the Mee Siam Otak-Otak and Nasi Lemak Otak-Otak, both were flavourful and spicy, so if you enjoy a bit of heat, this one’s for you Parking was easy, and the coffee was nice and strong. They also sell coffee and otak-otak for takeaway, which makes it great for bringing home as souvenirs.

I finally got round to trying this place. I haven’t had the opportunity before because they close at 7 pm which is too early for me. I must say that my first impression was good. From the real coffee tree growing in a pot outside, to the coffee paraphernalia on display to the solid timber log wood table, a lot of thought has been put into this cafe. Their signature 434 Iced Coffee was good. Not too sweet or strong, just right for my taste. I tried the Mee Bandung which is a signature dish from Muar. This was truly excellent. The gravy was tasty and spicy. In fact it was spicy enough to make me reach for the tissues to blow my nose. My only complaint is that the noodles were slightly overcooked and too soft. If they can get the timing right, this would be worthy as their signature dish. All the same I would give it a Highly Recommended. On a return visit the noodles were done properly and taste was still good. Muar is also famous for otak-otak. The version here comes in the daun nipah which imparts a unique fragrance to the fish paste filling. This was slightly spicy and tasty. This gets a Recommeded from me. The Fried Durian Ball was freshly fried and served piping hot on the table. Inside the crispy outer layer is a layer of flour and then a filling of durian paste. Not the best I’ve had but it’s still pretty good. A nice end to a good meal. Return visit: Bihun Siam with Otak-otak - the Bihun lacked flavour and needed the sambal to add some taste. The otak-otak was a large piece and quite good. However I’d give the Bihun a miss in future. Half boiled eggs were decent. Bread with butter and Kaya was good as well with good quality butter but the Kaya was a strange dark colour and not quite fragrant. Mee siput is a Muar snack. Basically a bundle of noodles deep fried until crispy and eaten with a spicy sambal. It’s quite tasteless and rather hard. You can try it if you want to know what it’s like but I would not order it again. Lol. Sept 2025: The Mee Bandung came with Fried chicken . Still good and Highly Recommended. Nasi Ayam Rendang - more like chicken curry rather than rendang. I had to confirm with the waitress that they gave me the right dish. Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng - nice sambal with good spiciness. Fragrant rice and freshly fried chicken. 434 Milk Shake - string coffee taste with ice cream mixed in. Didn’t look great but tasted good. Mr Fairephant - cross between a coffee milkshake and a grass jelly drink? Not to my liking.

First time trying out this outlet originated from Muar Johor and it’s probably the most yellowish building in Kajang located just beside the Pasar Kajang. I love Kopi 434 to have their Kopi C and Kaya Toast with Butter. The aroma of their Kopi C is very rich and aromatic leaving behind a nice bitterness in the mouth… nice. Their Kaya toast is good but I just wish their toast to be a bit thicker… other than that, it’s yummy. Before leaving, don’t forget to buy their Kopi because it’s cheaper thank buying online or in the supermarket.

Verdict: I will revisit this restaurant. I am satisfied with the taste of foods. Foods: + Nasi Lemak (10/10): It's not too salty yet the fragrance is good. Like the chili paste too. The peanuts were fresh and crunchy. + Wholemeal Toast (8/10): The bread is a little too thin from my expectation. + The Supreme Milk Tea (5/10): Service: No complaint, all good. Environment: Nicely renovated restaurant. Comfortable.

Love the Christmas decorations at Kopi 434 — very cozy and festive. Perfect place for a relaxing coffee break. The drinks and food are not expensive, very reasonable for the quality. Definitely a nice spot to chill and enjoy good coffee.
